Ford F-150 SVT Raptor with RHD conversion. Now it may not be rare to you guys but there's more Ferrari 458s driving around Australia then them. It's also around $130k once you get the conversion done. I think this is the same fella that owns a RHD Camaro, another $100k+ car once converted.

Female P Plater too.
I was lucky to get home alive.
I kid! I kid!

Speaking as a true american, this guy's out of his mind. Give you the mainland for a 458, but a Raptor? Cool and all but F that. Two different leagues.

Got the HUD on. Also those prices AUD or $

In the land of offroad gold in the form of Nissan Patrols, LR Defenders, and unfat Land Cruisers, someone would pick one of these?

Some people like the F150s over here. I remember Ford importing a batch in the early 2000s when my mate worked for them. Sold out instantly, and when people were selling them second hand they were getting more then what they paid for them.

Why would you do this when you can just walk right down to your local Holdenarium and buy a Maloo R8? (Or a Pursuit Ute from Ford if you have to have a Ford.)

colour me very ignorant.. why are cars/trucks so fucking expensive in Australia?
![]() 11/10/2014 at 23:49 |

Always got the HUD on, never look at the dials anymore. AUD prices, to convert to USD shave around $10k off.

I remember a while back seeing the website of a dealership in Australia that specialized in importing and converting US-spec vehicles, mostly trucks. I still feel the sticker-shock. It was almost like they had to buy a truck, and then buy another truck, breed them until one comes out with a RHD mutation, and then they charged you full price for every truck involved...

What does this mean?
![]() 11/10/2014 at 23:49 |

Money? Uniqueness? Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Americans won't know what this is, and Canadians don't know that the U.S. didn't get them.

It's sad that American manufacturers don't make many of their wares in RHD. I'm sure they'd sell a lot more Corvettes, Mustangs, and similar over there if they did. On the other hand, we don't get the Maloo, and no longer get the GTO, a Holden I believe. World markets my ass.

Know what we want back in the USSA? El Caminos and Rancheros. Auztralia has more American cars than America.

I saw two on the same day in Townsville a year ago. I was driving a hire Yaris at the time so I felt pretty emasculated

P plate is a provisional licence. We have L plates to start with, need to be accompanied by a fully licensed passenger 80km/h speed limit., you have them for around 1 year. Then red P's, limited to 90 km/h for a year, followed by green P's, 100km/h, and I think 2 years now.

Learner's permit, I think.

Well if you have to be unique...

(In fairness I was looking for the Mad Max clone that recently sold in NSW for around $85k.)

Mustang is RHD, I'm looking into one next year. So is the Camaro(we designed it, first ones made where RHD), and they're looking at RHD for the next Challenger/Charger. It could be rather interesting in the next few years for us if all that plays out.

I was contemplating doing it for a Camarao. It would have been close to $150k once taxes were paid to buy it, ship it and convert it.
I came to my senses, realised I could by a GT-R instead for that money, then gave up on the exercise and started saving for a house.

And it's about time. Glad you're getting a bit of the good, affordable stuff.

Taxes. The entire logistics of shipping them here and providing a service network, and pretty much because they can charge that much and we pay it. Not to mention our minimum wage is almost 3 times that of the US, we've kinda got a bit of money.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 00:02 |

Probably won't be affordable, I'm hearing prices on the Mustangs ranging from $40k to $70k. So we'll most likely end up paying double what you guys pay.

1 Oz Dollar equals .86 USD so $112290.75 for your 130k estimate.

Fair enough, I'm Canadian living on the west coast of the U.S. Let's say I sold two of my cars, and only shipped two over to Oz with me (both have DRL's and are left hand drives). 2007 Porsche Cayman and 2013 VW Jetta TDI, paid for and title in hand. Other than shipping what else could drive the cost up?

If those are Australian dollars, that's a lot of money. Not sure what the tax situation is there, but we just pay state sales tax, tags, and maybe a delivery fee, which is negotiable.
![]() 11/11/2014 at 00:20 |
|
Slightly different situation. Since you've owned the cars for over a year (I'm assuming) you can apply for a 'personal import'. But you're only allowed 1 car every 5 years. The steps you have to go through are a lot less strict then buying a brand new car and shipping it over. You'll have to pay shipping costs, import taxes, for the safety check and any modifications to make it legally roadworthy here, and I think you're able to get away with it being LHD.
Regs are here .

Things are just more expensive here. My Commodore with full kit in it and tuned to the same power output as the Chevy SS costs $60k retail here. A HSV R8, which is the Chevy with a body kit and a few more internals is closer to $70k, and you guys pay what, like $40k for one?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 00:25 |

Thanks for that.. so, I move to Australia cuz I don't need a job and can support myself on my cash & investments. If need be I work, it's not hard in my business. I love my Porsche, so the Jetta gets sold too.. what does it cost, other than shipping, to bring my Porsche with me?
![]() 11/11/2014 at 00:29 |

We don't get the HSV R8 here in US America. Chevy SS from about 44 grand American.

Vehicles up to 30 years old : 5% Duty + 10% GST
Luxury Car Tax (LCT) - rate of 33% on all vehicles with a current GST inclusive value in excess of $57,009 AUD. LCT is only payable on the amount in excess of the GST inclusive 'break point', cars with a Customs value over AU$43,000.
GST is a goods and services tax. Not sure of how much inspections costs, I think it depends on who you get to do it.

The same as importing to the U.K. though no import tax if importing from another E.U. country as you've already paid the tax in that E.U. country.

Pretty much the same as Canada, good info. I would save a lot of money shipping my car to Australia vs. buying one there. Thanks!
